I don’t know about you, but when someone brought me some Stroh 80 for my birthday I said “Great, thank you!  What is it?”

“It’s amazing, let’s drink it!” Out come the shot glasses.

This stuff is so strong, it’s flammable, and we did try some shots.  For as strong as it was, it was pretty delicious and I was anxious to try a few recipes out, but by the time I had two shots, thinking about cocktails was going to have to wait.

A few days later… Just kidding…  The next day we were anxious to find some great recipes to try.  But first, what the heck is it?

It’s considered a rum with traditional Austrian essences added in to give it a distinctive flavor. It’s quite creamy to the tongue, if you can keep it on your tongue.  The 80 proof version is pretty hard to even keep in your mouth!

It is also a popular ingredient in many Austrian cakes and pastries.

I’m a sucker for a nice after-dinner dessert cocktail, and the Nut Job was just the thing.

Nut Job

Ingredients:
.5 oz – Frangelico
.5 oz – cream liquor (I chose Bailey’s Irish Cream)
.5 oz – Stroh 80

Instructions:
Use a 2 oz cordial glass or if you decide to double this, use a Cosmo glass.
Pour all the ingredients in, they should mix right up with a swirl.
It’s really hard not to shoot this delightfully sweet drink.

For a Super Springbok, just swap out the Frangelico for some peppermint liquor.  What a great wintertime after-dinner drink that is!!

Lastly, I’ll leave you with this one:

Strohberry (makes 2)

Ingredients: strohberry
1.5 oz Stroh
2 oz Strawberry sauce/puree
6.5 Pineapple juice
1 dash of Lemon juice

Instructions:
You will need a shaker with ice and a couple rocks glasses with 2-3 ice cubes.
Put all the ingredients into a shaker and shake well.  Pour into the 2 glasses equally: mind your strainer as your puree might not easily pass through the pores.

Enjoy!
